Best of 2020
I will be honest, I was not even going to create a best of blog for 2020 (hence why I am only doing this now) But, looking back, I still shot 3 weddings before the first lock down then another 5 micro weddings. I also met up with so many lovely couples for their pre shoot so it felt right to still create one. I think it is just one of those years (for obvious reasons) we all want to forget about. But that would not be fair on all the couples that still had their big day.
Of course, the micro weddings were a lot different to what they had originally planned. But it actually made so many people realise (including myself) what weddings are actually all about. Having a very small group of guests made you remember what is important to you as a person. It made us all appreciate the small things in life (cheesy as that sounds) and much more.
For me personally, I LOVED all the micro weddings. The intimacy of what the occasion bought to the day is something I got a real feel for. I like to stay close and document people being people so it actually helped hone in on my skills a bit more. Of course, I always approach weddings like this even with 200 people but having a very small number helped to stay close to the subject matter.
I faced a lot of challenges myself in 2020. Problems that maybe one day I will have the confidence to talk about on my social media pages to potentially help others. But there was 2 things that helped me get through it all. Going for long dog walks with my stunning golden retriever Bobby, my beautiful wife Natalie and of course my adorable little girl Aurelia. The second being the weddings I was fortunate enough to document from July right up to my last wedding in December. Yes it was only 5 weddings (a huge difference to 2019) but it meant a lot to me. Seeing people enjoying themselves and getting to be their witness will always be the reason why this job is the best out there.
Fingers crossed for 2021. We are not through this yet but I am sure soon enough we will be back on that dance floor until early hours.
