Documenting my family is something I do on a daily basis. You would think away from weddings is my time to chill. The time to leave the camera packed away. But, I absolutely love my job and feel a bit strange if my camera is not in my hand (or close by). So, documentary family photography is a pretty normal thing now in our home.

My wife does not complain though. How could she? As a family, we are making memories together and we can rely on photos to look back on and smile. My approach to weddings is completely natural, unposed photography. Documentary family photography is no different.

Documenting Every Moment

Posing people is really not my style. To me, capturing real, every day moments is what photography is all about. Of course, we all take photos when out for the day playing with our children in the park. This is still great by the way. But what about all the other little moments?

With documentary family photography I can photograph everything that is going on around me. Everything I see as a human and show the world what I see. Moments like my little girl eating her breakfast. Watching TV with our golden retriever Bobby. It’s the simple things that I can show her when shes older. A collection of her life where I was her witness.

Documenting people is what I do and love. Weddings, of course, are the bread and butter as they say, but occasionally I get to visit clients’ homes. Letting people be people inside their comfort zone is a real honour and very moving.

Asking them to just be themselves and do what they like to do at the weekend. Natural, documentary family photography can be captured. Coffee seems to be the no.1 thing families indulge in, so I am in my element there.

Documentary Family Photography

To be honest, I think we all document our lives in some way or another. It just comes down to what moves you as a person and what you see. We all see the world entirely different. Some people like to take selfies. It’s not really for me but without that selfie with your best friend you might not have another photo together (a recent one anyway).

My photography background started from street & landscape photography. Capturing people being themselves on the streets and capturing beautiful landscapes. Documenting my family is no different to be honest. I take photos of my family being themselves. Documenting the love between my little girl and our golden retriever. My photos will always show love, fun and a lot of animals. This is what I love so I want my viewers to feel this.
