‘Rustic charm’ has always been something I love in design. There is just so much character and warmth on offer and you can use pretty much anything to make it work.

For example, a rustic, industrial designed environment are where my editing days take place. Reclaimed wood and iron legs create a vinyl record stand. A vintage clock and retro camera for instance add to the small decor touches.

Scotland, I have a huge love for so this comes into play with countless tartan throws around the house. The cats love them so that’s the most important thing of course.

Rustic Fashion

Jude Photography

This all led to my rustic wedding approach when I realised I wanted to become a photographer. With fashion, I was pretty much there due to wearing tweed waistcoats and pocket watches, paired with brogues on a regular basis.

Because of this, I used this as an advantage for wedding photography to present myself in a smart, respectable manner. But it also helped create my candid, documentary approach as I tend to blend in with wedding guests. Result for capturing natural shots! So this was a bonus.

Rustic Designs

Jude Photography

I was always told to ‘be yourself’ in this business. So I do not think it is any coincidence that I am a photographer for a rustic, barn wedding quite regularly. My clients can see from the moment they visit my website that I offer rustic packages. They can also see my site is set to this theme.

Without a doubt, it is very important to strike a bond in subjects you have in common from the start. Folio Albums assisted in making this happen with these beautiful presentation books and USB packages in particular. Due to little touches like this that help distinguish me as a rustic wedding photographer and not a traditional wedding photographer.

Rustic Surroundings

Jude Photography

The wedding day itself, for instance, I often find myself hunting for little rustic woodland areas for couple time photos. They really do bring so much colour and texture into shot, which I would think any wedding photographer wishes, not just a rustic style photographer.

For this reason, I usually go for a wander on my break to find these little spots. In addition to this, it also helps to capture these shots during golden hour. As a result, the extra warmth golden hour supplies is essential. Of course, this can not always be achieved due to weather conditions. But, I will always check my weather app to see the best time to venture out for couple photos.

Rustic Venues

Jude Photography

Venues like Milling Barn & Hookhouse Farm are very rustic for example. Because of this, more couples are going away from the traditional wedding assumptions these days and how can you blame them with venues like this on offer?

The best advice, in short, is visit venues. Above all, this is the most important part of wedding planning. You can then get a real feel for the place and picture your wedding.

It is so important to pick a venue that reflects your personality and not what you are expected to choose for your wedding. This is the biggest day of your life so take it all in. Enjoy every second with a theme that is YOU!
